Safety and Moderation
on Chaface
Random video chat only works if people who break the rules are removed quickly. This page explains exactly what happens on Chaface, from signing in to what happens after you press Report.
Who can use Chaface
- Chaface is for adults only (18+). You accept this in the terms before your first chat.
- Everyone signs in with a Google account. There are no anonymous throwaway accounts, which keeps out bots and makes bans stick.
- Your name and email are never shown to the people you chat with.
What happens when you press Report
- 1
You choose a reason
Nudity or sexual content, sexual behaviour, offensive content, a user who looks under 18, spam, or other.
- 2
We capture one still image
At that moment, a single still image of the reported person’s video is saved as evidence. Nothing else from the call is recorded.
- 3
AI checks the image
An AI model checks the image for explicit sexual content. If it finds it, the account is banned automatically for 30 days.
- 4
Our team reviews the rest
Every other report goes to our moderation team, who can ban for 30 days or permanently.
Bans that stick
A ban is tied to the account, the IP address and the device, so creating a new Google account is not enough to come back. A banned user sees a ban notice and, for temporary bans, the date it ends.
Your privacy during a call
- Calls go directly between the two browsers (peer-to-peer). Chaface does not record your video or audio.
- The only images we keep are the still captures attached to reports, as evidence for moderation.
- Because the connection is direct, someone with technical knowledge could see your IP address, as on almost every video chat. Use a VPN if that worries you.
Staying safe: our advice
- Never share your full name, address, phone number, school or workplace.
- Assume the other person could record their screen. Do nothing on camera you would not want saved.
- If anyone threatens you or asks for money, do not pay. Keep evidence and contact the police.
- Press Next whenever you feel uncomfortable, and report so it does not happen to someone else.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Chaface record video calls?+
No. Calls go directly between browsers and are not recorded. Only a single still image is saved when someone is reported, as evidence for moderation.
How long does a ban last?+
Automatic bans for explicit content last 30 days. Our team can also ban for 30 days or permanently. Bans are tied to the account, IP address and device.
Can a banned user just make a new account?+
No. Because the ban also covers the IP address and the device, a new Google account on the same device does not get around it.
Who reviews reports?+
An AI model checks the captured image for explicit content first. Everything it does not ban automatically is reviewed by our moderation team.
